Carbon Neutral

LuxuryCare’s First Carbon Neutral Care Home

The Luxurycare Group have always led by example with an innovative approach. The whole team are proud to now be able to declare Eagles Mount Care Home as the UK’s first Carbon Neutral Care Home. Our new ‘Green’ approach allows us to look after your family and future generations as well as the environment.

We are proud to announce that we have partnered with Carbon Neutral Britain to measure and offset our carbon footprint, to become Certified as a Carbon Neutral Business. We engaged Carbon Neutral Britain in March 2021, with the ambition to measure and offset the total emissions from Eagles Mount Care Home to become a Carbon Neutral Business.

It was identified that the largest emissions were to come from energy consumption of the site from electricity and mains gas. Our Carbon Neutral Status has been awarded for a period of 12 months. Eagles Mount will complete an annual calculation of its  environmental impact and emissions in 2022, to further monitor and evaluate changes after the impact of Covid-19, in addition to offsetting and maintaining carbon neutral status.

Carbon Offsetting Projects

Through the Carbon Neutral Britain Climate and Woodland Fund™, Eagles
Mount has offset its total carbon emissions through internationally certified carbon offsetting projects.

Certified via the Verra – Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), the Gold Standard – Voluntary Emission Reductions (VER) or the United Nations – Certified Emission Reductions (CER) programmes, the projects have also been selected based on their direct and indirect impact around the world – not just in offsetting, but also in supporting education, employment and clean water, as well as having net positive impact on the local wildlife and ecology.

As the three largest, and most regulated voluntary offsetting standards used by
organisations and even countries in their emissions reductions – all measurements and tonnes of CO²e offset are accurate, and verified.

Our Green Partners

Eagles Mount are in the process of reducing the amount of Carbon that we produce. We are working with the Coacoara Foundation. Their mission is to reduce and eventually eliminate all single use plastics being used on a day to day basis, especially within the household. By helping their audience make the change to plastic free products, they hope to one day make a huge difference to our world.

Eagles Mount have recognised that reducing our carbon footprint is a key drive in our green initiative. We have also moved to change our energy to Gazprom Energy Eco Gas who offer Eco Gas through the GGCS scheme, which tracks biomethane or ‘green gas’ through the supply chain to provide certainty for our customers that by purchasing Eco Gas, they are contributing to the generation of renewable energy. As an Eco Gas customer, we will be be presented with a Renewable Gas Guarantee of Origin (RGGO) Certificate to show that our consumption is made up of renewable energy.

A lovely Testimonial

I spent a long time looking for the right care home as, for me, this was the biggest change since the passing of my late husband over a year ago. I did not want a Care Home that would restrict my lifestyle. I was looking for a place that was warm, friendly and gave me a sense of community. Eagles Mount fitted that. I was especially excited to learn that the Home was carbon neutral. The Team explained to me that they had made various changes, like, reducing the number of suppliers who visited to bring their carbon emissions down. Protecting the locality and everything around it is really important to me and my family.

The views from my room are also exceptional. I do enjoy reading a book or having a chat with the other ladies here while we gaze out over the sunset. It really is a great place.

Our Green Team

It’s not only those that use Eagles Mount Care Home that care about being Green, our staff team do as well.  Having surveyed our staff team, we found that people want their work life to align with their personal values which include being part of a sustainable future. When the two are at odds, it can lead to stress and low job satisfaction.

Millennials in particular crave a sense of purpose beyond just making money, and want to feel like what they’re doing matters. In fact, 75% of millennials want their employer’s values to match their own, and 62% want to be known for making a positive difference in the world. This generation now makes up the largest segment of the workforce and is redefining the health care sector. We want a loyal and motivated staff team and aim to demonstrate that we care what is important to them.

With global warming at a high, working for a company that exhibits a strong commitment to environmental responsibility is a priority for many employees. A 2019 study shows that people are 73% more likely to accept a job at a company that practices sustainability. This is especially true for millennials, with 86% of this generation saying they would stay longer at a company that is lowering its environmental impact. Implementing sustainable practices, such as carbon offsetting, will improve our job satisfaction and increase retention levels amongst our staff team.
